What a Year 2024!
HLP continued its long-term success in 2024. We advised on 11 completed transactions, which is a record number for us and a leader in the Finnish market. Whilst the M&A market in Finland was slow, we completed eight sell-side transactions last year across several industries. We are very honoured for the trust placed in us and proud of the results we have delivered.
Increasing Deal Activity
HLP counts on an M&A rebound ahead. Following a subdued period in 2023 and early 2024, the Finnish M&A market began to show signs of recovery in H2 2024. We expect this momentum to carry into 2025 given decreasing interest rates and a more favourable economic environment are likely to support increased M&A activity. While the initial public offering market was quiet in Finland during 2024, there is an expectation for a gradual increase in IPO activity in 2025. This resurgence could complement M&A activities, providing companies with multiple avenues for growth and value creation.

In 2024, HLP solidified its position as a trusted advisor across a range of key industries. We demonstrated our expertise in sectors such as industrial, consulting, business services and media. HLP’s client base reflects our versatility and client-focused approach. For private equity and larger corporations we delivered exits. Entrepreneurs benefited from guidance and help to align business aspirations with value-play. For listed companies, we delivered fairness opinions in interesting PTO situations.
New Managing Partner
We are delighted to announce that Matti Merivirta has been appointed new Managing Partner of HLP as of Mid January 2025. Matti is one of our most experienced investment bankers with a background from Goldman Sachs in London. Matti has been an instrumental part of the HLP team already for 16 years. This nomination follows a change in our senior team as Mika Kouhi has decided to leave HLP to pursue other opportunities. We wish to thank Mika for his valuable and strong input over the past 4 years and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
